Today, June 4th, 2025, marks the 21st anniversary of the KILLDOZER — one of the most infamous acts of rebellion and defiance against government authorities.
Marvin Heemeyer owned a small muffler shop in his town. The local government approved the construction of a concrete plant directly in front of his business, effectively blocking access and causing severe financial harm. Marvin repeatedly sought solutions through legal means, appealing to the city council to halt construction or allow partial access. Every request was denied. At one point, Marvin even offered to build an alternative access road at his own expense — he had purchased the necessary materials and machinery. Still, the city refused. To make matters worse, the concrete plant disconnected Marvin's shop from the town’s sewage system. Instead of helping, the city fined him for having improper sewage. 🤡 With his business failing and his personal life in ruins, Marvin meticulously planned his revenge. Over the course of 1.5 years, he secretly modified a bulldozer he had originally purchased for the road project. He fortified it with steel armor, installed bulletproof glass, and equipped it with a sophisticated camera system — state-of-the-art for the time. On June 4th, 2004, Marvin locked himself inside the armored bulldozer and began his mission, first demolishing the concrete plant that had devastated his livelihood. Over the next few hours, he drove through town, systematically destroying government buildings and the homes of public officials he held responsible for his plight. The SWAT team was deployed, but their weapons, including rifles and explosives, proved useless against the heavily armored KILLDOZER. Nothing seemed capable of stopping Marvin’s fury against the system — until the machine became trapped in the debris of one of the buildings he was demolishing. Surrounded and with no way out, Marvin took his own life — the only casualty of that day. Today, we remember the day of the KILLDOZER and Marvin Heemeyer — the last great American anti-hero. A simple man who decided to fight back after his life was destroyed by an indifferent government. Among his notes, one quote stood out: “I was always a reasonable person until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things.” 🫡 https://image.nostr.build/9af44c77bc1db700c48d73ae1aa0ea467dddecb5194cdd353c576b76222c9cbe.jpg https://image.nostr.build/7aba811b90af1081e7752769b858c3f3cfb7d3a453f1ac13196ee98949235643.jpg https://image.nostr.build/0335f5fb2161cac54161b27b233c0a4f3f6f3b0ad469d0272b260b946bfb5a9a.jpg

Have you ever shuffled a deck of cards? If so, you’ve likely held a unique sequence—a combination of cards that’s never existed before in the universe’s history and probably never will again.
Let’s dive into entropy, improbability, and, naturally, #Bitcoin. A standard 52-card deck can be arranged in 52! ways. That’s: 80,658,175,170,943,878,571,660,636,856,403,766,975,289,505,440,883,277,824,000,000,000,000 or roughly 8x10⁶⁷ possible shuffles. Hard to grasp? Consider this: ⏱️ ~4.3x10¹⁷ seconds have elapsed since the Big Bang. 🧑🧑🧒🧒 ~100 billion humans have ever lived. If every person shuffled a deck every second since the universe began, we’d still likely never see the same order twice. Each thorough shuffle creates something entirely new. That’s the wonder of entropy. So, how does this connect to Bitcoin? This same improbability is what makes #Bitcoin secure. When you create a Bitcoin wallet with a 24-word seed phrase, you’re selecting one out of: 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936 possibilities, or ~1.1579x10⁷⁷. That’s exponentially larger than the deck’s shuffles. To crack your wallet, someone would need to guess that exact sequence. 💪 Brute force? Useless. 🖥️ Supercomputers? Nope. ⏳ Time? Not enough. It’s like picking one specific grain of sand from the entire universe… twice. Bitcoin’s security doesn’t come from secrecy—it’s protected by being one choice among near-infinite possibilities. Isn’t that elegant? And get this: you can generate that level of security with something as simple as a six-sided die or, yes, a deck of cards. If this doesn’t spark awe for the math behind #Bitcoin and its brilliant design, reread it. You’ll probably want to stack more satoshis. Happy Sunday! 👋 https://video.nostr.build/fd467ac353ecbee524b35258439994548460091d7c84bb3f154f9b36e8b971bb.mp4 https://video.nostr.build/98428dbe5811d720752f15b39d838643fc9b522ee05f5949a97bd2b999cd23fe.mp4

He used to run marathons when he was diagnosed. Terminal illness. He only had 5 years left.
An athlete and developer, he lost all motor functions but never stopped coding. The project he dedicated the end of his life to changed the world. This is the extraordinary story of Harold Finney👇 https://image.nostr.build/9637bcbea59e3e45b24afc1372a27a9e933c612d6cbab6917dc766849341fc5c.png https://image.nostr.build/3b3417f496df7225757aa6f40d11db0962a8574b3beaee3316a8df4198e557fa.jpg In this note, you'll learn how a life-loving nerd: • built a machine to type using only eye movements; • mined a fortune in #Bitcoin; and • froze himself in a liquid nitrogen tank in hopes of seeing the future. But first, we need to start from the beginning… https://image.nostr.build/b000c81ee28d3f1718f16e772b83c3f3c2a546ffc7252014c9953beded2ed26a.jpg Harold (Hal) Thomas Finney was a polymath. He started his career developing games. Later, he joined the PGP Corporation—one of the first companies to commercialize cryptography—working alongside the legendary Phil Zimmermann. He was an active member of the Cypherpunks mailing list, exchanging ideas with pioneers like Wei Dai and Nick Szabo. https://image.nostr.build/0f2a5797bca3a14387466a00ca7b36f6927c4c76b559ffa24288027380bfef97.jpg https://image.nostr.build/b908f6926902b503db72fca9c3f03b793dd7f90d89f831671815724daf506f4f.jpg https://image.nostr.build/6d7f1e48ef61dd2710f94605c292000badc058653d452dd51f72d4fe0f2e8048.jpg https://image.nostr.build/3a8eae885c4bafdcf7baf0f0934501673902d7f20c79208dfa007432110e4137.png Hal operated servers that routed anonymous messages. On the early internet, he debated ways to defund the U.S. government’s “ponzi” schemes. He also launched prototypes for new forms of electronic money, such as RPoW (Reusable Proof of Work). 👑 But his most iconic achievement happened on January 12, 2009 👇 https://image.nostr.build/60597b19a487fbc3591560e38ea745b0eb00ee5ce1e124c64f4319e403ecd411.jpg Hal Finney had been following a new idea circulating on the cypherpunk mailing list: #Bitcoin. On January 11, 2009, a Sunday, someone named Satoshi posted Bitcoin’s source code on the list. Hal was the FIRST to reply! In a moment of wild imagination, he suggested that 1 BTC could one day be worth $10 million. https://image.nostr.build/1765c855eb6a75ae3ed05106a02e95f24643cb5072db9a0f7238e5d8fe87cc84.png Hal even exchanged emails with Satoshi and helped fix bugs in Bitcoin's code. On January 12 in Greenwich (January 11 at 7:24 PM in California), Hal received 10 #BTC in a "test" transaction initiated by the creator himself. This was—and will forever remain—the first transaction in the history of #Bitcoin. https://image.nostr.build/2f5650daefbce627a416c6db58862af4f0c3e30774e4611df2a966e204f9cdcc.jpg Fun fact 👇 Those 10 #BTC, today, are worth more than $1 million. Each "50.00" #BTC block mined represents ~$5M 🤑. Hal mined over $12 MILLION in just one week, between January 10 and 16, 2009 🤯 (calculated at today's value of $100,000 per BTC). During those days, Hal's son, Jason, could hear the processors roaring at full speed in the attic 🔥 He recalled his dad's excitement in an interview: "He told us he was helping someone build a prototype for virtual money. It didn’t sound real. More like an experiment." https://image.nostr.build/c2f871af70fead9803be6918d9e86d3566a108bcfc5f60edb39ca9f0b45ad111.jpg Hal wrote about this period 👇 "I stopped because it made my computer overheat, and the fan noise annoyed me." He helped bring the project to life but wouldn’t return to it until 2010. Eight months after the genesis of #Bitcoin, Hal received news that changed everything... ☹️ https://image.nostr.build/a493b12a9afd6b3048623fc45e3d7c99bfd046d60e183ce2e6f0a27764464cfd.png It was August 2009. Hal Finney was diagnosed with ALS. The longest-living patient with the syndrome was Stephen Hawking, who survived for 55 years. Most don't make it past 5. In October, Hal shared his diagnosis online in a post titled "Dying Outside." His unshakable sense of humor stood out 👇 "I am lucky to have good support, caring family, and access to excellent medical care. Still, I find myself sometimes walking in circles, obsessing over what I could have done differently. But hey, life goes on—except for me, apparently!" Even as his body failed, Hal's mind remained as sharp as ever. https://image.nostr.build/8f1a84d44ea528f90a1028f9b8a21f2f291e987c912c0db946a9ec854155d782.png In this text, Hal confesses:https://lesswrong.com/posts/bshZiaLefDejvPKuS/dying-outside "My dream is to contribute to open-source projects even from within a motionless body. This is a life worth living." With the help of his wife, Hal did what was needed in the following years to achieve this mission ✊ Even as ALS ravaged his body, Hal never stopped working, continuing to contribute to projects like Bitcoin and other open-source endeavors. His dedication to his work and the legacy he built serves as an inspiration for many, showcasing how perseverance and passion can defy the most difficult of circumstances. https://image.nostr.build/a738b9f71401920cdc21ebc2b91bebdb566c7bbcc0543016aa8072023046e304.png First, Hal lost strength in his legs. Then, in his upper limbs. As his hands weakened, he built a device to continue typing with the movements of his eyes (the "black antennas" in the last photo). He was never seen complaining. He had a superpower 👇 https://image.nostr.build/5ee16548ebfe32c2f9d17ea3442f02901c34aa91d1ab751b8dd4f67e49f7828f.jpg https://image.nostr.build/cce99e8ef0d6ba920a9ed218ae387219fd8ca37c2eaecc8bf5ef433a8af3336b.jpg https://image.nostr.build/61a937ac424bc65dcd2febc36faa4d65d2c38462d0ad9d1c99d3b8787fcdedd8.jpg An immeasurable passion for life 🦸 Hal was a Transhumanist and corresponded with Extropians—a group of technologists fascinated by extending life. He even convinced his wife to become a client of ALCOR—one of the few companies that... you won't believe what they do 😅 https://image.nostr.build/11bdc02b35bfbd2b0acfb623f82eb66b6f429a609b1a556b3270ca490c4407e7.png https://image.nostr.build/6f1c4c5d39180e60fa73b4259aef0f68c9d80e7424ca1e1569e6140822777cc9.jpg Alcor freezes ("cryopreserves") the bodies and heads of people who want to give science a chance to evolve to the point of bringing them back. In addition to Hal Finney, other Extropians embraced the idea. Peter Thiel is one of their clients. Paris Hilton too. "The prospect of immortality" inspired Hal. 🔭 Extropians envisioned a future where consciousness could be downloaded into machines. Where the body would be transcended. Where life could span generations. Their affinity with Bitcoiners is OBVIOUS. Ask yourself the following question 👇 https://image.nostr.build/8c712b5934d29b733980e9e0e7fbf0a67ec57c975408ed18466c599acfeca356.jpg https://image.nostr.build/7db436684f56791e2c0db34d46cc20535bf94f8e97c908f12f70fb2c1f07b5d6.jpg "If you were to travel 100 YEARS into the FUTURE, HOW would you carry VALUE with you?" Dollars? Gold? 🤔 (Spoiler: #Bitcoin) Ralph Merkle, another renowned cryptographer, once said about cryonics: "It's not about whether it 'works' or not. It's an experiment. Do you want to participate or stay in the control group?" https://image.nostr.build/783a1fb0bfde16ab402b2722b19440b7adb897c85083119c4b885cb3560b6d0f.png In 2011 and 2012, Hal's disease progressed. But the prospect of cryonics gave him hope. Just as the work he was doing on Bitcoin wallet security did. Fran Finney recalls: "Hal longed to experience tomorrow. He embraced every new thing." https://image.nostr.build/cb6543a1aac8b0e8d5739685a9e67aea698e5ebc8d3438a2c436d2a0459f15a4.jpg On his last ski trip, Hal reflected on the mental strength that remained: “It’s good that, you know, I can say goodbye mentally as it happens. It makes it a little easier.” He had agreed with Fran that when he could no longer communicate with his family, it would be time to go. https://image.nostr.build/f9dec677e63c8ad877b525eea43a68b99fc5736cc130107a088eb3980ee58c59.jpg On August 26, 2014, the day arrived. Hal’s vital functions were ceased, and the cryonic procedure was initiated. He became the 128th patient of Alcor. Today, his body floats in a tank at -150°C, in the middle of Arizona. His memories, informationally, remain intact. https://image.nostr.build/5fb16a71eff162917c4c1ffe3c6cc9357596069a0e7e64e7ced65e4f594f42f2.jpg https://image.nostr.build/e23c2b97d6d7398db917f7623d33fac4d5e502c7cbf99d6a0ab1256050854652.jpg The Extropians have long asked: "When does a person actually die?" When breathing stops? (No - it can be resumed!) When the heart stops? (No - it can be revived!) When brain electrical activity ceases? They have a concept that ANSWERS this👇 https://video.nostr.build/3239e5ab29d40a124c22eccd545d00996ced94ff41d2c466ea5b905f8dfc94cb.mp4 R. Merkle argues that the definition of death has always EVOLVED alongside medical technology. A person declared dead in 1930, if given the medicine of 2023, might have survived. http://ralphmerkle.com/definitions/infodeath.html This idea underpins the decision of many cryonicists to "freeze themselves." The "theoretical informational death" only happens when the structures that encode memory and personality are broken to the point of becoming irrecoverable. By this criterion, Hal remains alive. And in the #BTC blockchain, too. Many addresses still carry traces of his transactions to this day 🤯. https://image.nostr.build/5e7ecfc85a8b78c7d3d8733b2289098a166284c06c23281971e6795c1926b955.jpg Before he passed, Hal wrote a farewell letter and posted it on a Bitcoin forum he had been a part of since the beginning. The letter is called "Bitcoin and Me" 🥹 "My kids understand technology. I'm comfortable with my legacy." 🙏 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155054.0 Hal was a prodigy of cryptography. The first disciple of Satoshi. A father, gamer, inventor. And he taught us that even though life is short, time can be so full of life that it feels infinite. 🙏 We hope to be here to witness his return. Who wouldn't want to hear the stories!? https://image.nostr.build/b9e61a0def79a599b026327b6774e0df2bc1d1d46674386ee192bc0ce01357fb.jpg https://image.nostr.build/9f11edfd4795bc7a3fab939afcdced20697587d744885cbf9b114a7122ed62a9.png https://image.nostr.build/cc997668f6e19b185f0f3746a9341eab747e69e336f931365b56715b3c5bb259.png

This boy SAVED the INTERNET… but couldn't save himself.
10 years ago, he was persecuted by his government, and ultimately paid with his life. Aaron Swartz is a modern hero that most people DO NOT KNOW. But they should. https://image.nostr.build/a5163a2d322330e5853e14ddf87d1613eecbdff0e23451d9f3059d3c1e0cd723.jpg Aaron was creative, focused, and brilliant. At 14, he invented RSS; He dropped out of Stanford; At 19, he was in the first Y Combinator class; He co-founded Reddit. Most likely, if he were alive today, he would be involved with #Bitcoin. But that’s not EVEN 1% of what he did for us 🙏 Let’s take a look 👇 https://image.nostr.build/37c7dd4a0ddbad0ae5a98babc66adc4916cc4a03b13d63d0fced0e6c3e0541fd.jpg From a young age, Aaron believed in an OPEN INTERNET. In computers as a tool for LIBERATION. "But wait, wasn’t the internet always open?" No. Believe it or not, there was a time when they wanted you to REGISTER your ID before you could browse or send an email. https://image.nostr.build/77deabc6b94e160f43a3dd1522c5dac30061ac5423e6b2e3df10162a25e8e612.png https://image.nostr.build/960a2e8b7b518cd7f34af6d791518cdabf7b7cdc22366decc16c667cad1f727f.jpg https://image.nostr.build/5d22d57a1ed58ce2f301d45dd09500d066c8c422039ce4c9c30eec586178fddd.jpg He believed that PUBLIC LEGAL RECORDS and SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH should be accessible to everyone. But in the U.S., • 98% of scientific articles are behind paywalls; and • ~80% of legal records are too. Imagine being sued and still having to pay to view the documents? Aaron's war had 3 major battles. The first was against PACER. A legal records database. PACER is PAID... but it was "free" in 17 public libraries. With friends, Aaron wrote a script on a USB drive, plugged it into a USB port, downloaded 2.7 million documents... and SET THEM FREE. https://video.nostr.build/21b565dd1742bc950748be2ac0e0ce2868f4b94c54d1da9321a198c49fe85d1e.mp4 No charges were made against the group. But the FBI began to take notice. That had only been the beginning. That boy would still challenge the system. The following year, Aaron would enter the biggest fight of his life — and the greatest battle in internet history against censorship ✊ https://image.nostr.build/ab43c6a3d189953bfee2fdc26760e819bc9e637dce97d0c8362a36192487b0aa.png "SOPA/PIPA" 👉 if you're over 20, you probably still remember these acronyms. A bill to "combat piracy"... which was just an excuse for the government to shut down ANY SITE, without warning. Some companies loved the idea. But those who loved the internet fought back. https://image.nostr.build/605d066f5a7cc73cf8efe620725ac19f3fa9e85b760acd9e66b6f637b6837681.jpg And then, something wonderful happened. We still knew how to fight against online censorship. In a coordinated response, the biggest websites on the internet "went on STRIKE." Wikipedia and Reddit went offline. Google turned black. Protests also erupted in the STREETS. But... https://image.nostr.build/605d066f5a7cc73cf8efe620725ac19f3fa9e85b760acd9e66b6f637b6837681.jpg https://image.nostr.build/12adaed7c7a5ce9e8ce3c0944111c45e0e311b02c14319ef31910ea3ee5c60aa.jpg https://image.nostr.build/7a23543a1a8be95067289d830c766a4af93a321402ba1e2f53b268d660cba2fa.jpg https://image.nostr.build/0f934d461a5491c39928a1a1bdbfbefe16cb4f70abd6e8bb54c9ee2e6621b438.jpg ... but people have short memories. This battle was won. However, the NEXT one would be the LAST for young Aaron. This MIT security camera was the final straw that ruined his life 👇📹 https://image.nostr.build/e48beb62bce1cdc7554d8e602786a29969a687202f7c7e6971f9f203de3160e6.png JSTOR was Swartz's final target: the largest database of academic papers in the world. Aaron wrote a script to download MILLIONS of papers, over the course of months, using his MIT access, in a small room. MIT has a rebellious culture. But the FBI could no longer tolerate the boy's defiance. https://image.nostr.build/0f98f712709cacd788a841186630069f9b8877bbea34374f83c529e0b29d1385.jpg With the video evidence, the U.S. prosecution charged Aaron with 13 crimes. Up to 50 years in prison. In January 2011, he was arrested by undercover agents near the Harvard campus. From then on, he was legally tortured. Two years later, he would be found dead at home. https://image.nostr.build/0e6b2b6d4ac93cc031267d6a3ae4fdd1afbaf7154c3d1b28db144e703325eff3.png https://image.nostr.build/94285f292eb025a91ba591bb14ac0c8739607d428a956f73eb01a7b5c2f1f360.png "Aaron would be 38 years old today. He was accused of 'pirating' scientific papers funded with public money. Facing up to 50 years in prison, he took his own life. Those he inspired continue to democratize access to science. Aaron never considered entering a 'plea deal'. He would have faced millions of dollars in legal costs. The father of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee, published a short poem at the time that says it all: “The world was a little worse for his passing, But a lot better for his being.” https://image.nostr.build/110bd2ce6b535252ecff250b6609cc6f301b906f6681c2459d375c09af2a9548.png Aaron wasn’t a unanimous figure. You may disagree with his methods. But he was faithful to his ideal. He was genuine. Firm in what he believed. He was a person who used his prodigious skills not to enrich himself, but to make the internet fairer, and the world a better place. https://image.nostr.build/570b43a6887dfa430be76e33a416c7bbc65d05e9acf0404ae46ad1a522bf9abc.jpg Aaron had worked with Virgil Griffith (former Ethereum, now imprisoned for "teaching about crypto" to North Koreans). But, like all power, there are those who want to keep it for themselves. There is no justice in following unjust laws. It’s time to come to the light, and, in the tradition of civil disobedience, declare our opposition to the private theft of public culture. We must take information, wherever it is, make our copies, and share them with the world." 🚨 For the first time, a government is being overthrown by 3D-printed weapons 🔫
